I read an article about the best and worst jobs for your health and it’s really so ironic that one of the worst jobs for your health is the one that are tasked in keeping all of us healthy. With that, I’m sure you know it already.
Anyway, it is the healthcare shift workers like nurses and doctors who are in the position at increased risks of diabetes, heart disease, sleep disorders and a lot more to mention. But surprisingly, healthcare professionals were only at number five from the lists of the worst jobs and topping the list are the desk jockey. Meaning those who work right in front of the desk with a sedentary and indoor lifestyle, in fact, they are facing long term health and wellness problem.
Next in line are firefighters and police officers, manual laborer, lawyers and of course the nurses and doctors who are supposedly assigned in keeping us healthy yet aren’t able to do the same for themselves. In fact, in the study published in the Journal of Nursing Administration shows that about 55% of nurses surveyed were obese.
Rotating shifts links to higher risks of heart disease and that long hours of work and short sleep duration may disrupt the sleeping patterns. And we all know that our body clock plays a big role in the regulation of blood sugar, blood pressure and insulin thus putting them at the forefront among the unhealthiest jobs for your heart.

I should be luck then as my line of work is not included in the list.. but still, I am not healthy enough.

Ironic, isn’t it?
Good thing I’m now a stay at home mom! I once was a desk jockey for 13 years! yikes! Although I may say I’m not fit and healthy now.

Geez. I don’t know if I can be considered as a “desk jockey” because my job requires me to face the pc the whole time if i’m not in an event or interview.

I’m surprised that call center reps are not included in the list. It definitely fits the descriptions mentioned here.

This is really interesting. Come to think of it… call center agents are underpaid no matter how high they are paid. Health is wealth, after all.

this is true but then healthcare professionals especially doctors are the most difficult of patients…maybe because they know what to expect in terms of morbidity and mortality and know the futility of it all…
