Most plans do not cover any type of work done by a cosmetic dentist so you’ll be paying those expenses out of your own pocket. Also check to see what the limits on coverage are. Some plans only will pay up to a certain amount each year.

   Depending on the type of plan you have, you may not be able to see whatever dentist you would like. Preferred provider plans for example, would specify a specific Boston dentist that was part of their network which you could see. Other plans allow you to see who ever you want. The benefit of the preferred provider plans is that they can offer lower deductibles and you can receive higher discounts on procedures.

When choosing a dental plan, first consider your personal needs. If you’re young healthy, and single, it would probably be cheaper just to pay for your annual cleanings out of pocket.
